About Generation Y Community

A community built by volunteers.
Made in Ukraine.

Generation Y Community (YGEN) is an independent volunteer-driven resource created by a small group of music enthusiasts from Ukraine.

The project began with a simple idea: instead of only consuming technology and media, build something meaningful that people around the world can enjoy.

For us, designing interfaces, writing software, building infrastructure and carefully curating music became a creative outlet during one of the most difficult periods in our country’s history.

YGEN was never created as a business. It has no investors, no subscription model and no commercial ambitions. It exists because we genuinely love the music that shaped an entire generation.

Why this music?

YGEN celebrates the late 90s and 2000s: pop, rock, house, trance, breakbeat, drum & bass, electronic music and memorable video game soundtracks.

Our selection is made by people, not recommendation algorithms. Every song is chosen with care for its character, memory and the place it holds in a wider musical era.

More than a simple community

YGEN is gradually becoming a music discovery project: a place to hear something, find it again and learn a little more about the people behind it.

Today that includes track and artist pages, listener ratings, the Top 100, recently played history, a searchable archive, an Android application and community comments.

Respect for artists

Artists, producers, composers, engineers and record labels make this music possible. YGEN is not intended to replace official music platforms.

We hope to help listeners rediscover music and then continue supporting the artists they love through official channels.

Where YGEN is heading

We are working towards richer artist and release information: official artist websites, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Bandcamp, Beatport releases, official stores, merchandise and tour information.

We also plan to add album information, release years, record labels, richer artist biographies, expanded historical notes and improved metadata. Whenever official information is available, YGEN will direct listeners towards the artist’s own platforms and trusted music services.

An independent project

YGEN is maintained entirely by volunteers. Development happens during free time, driven by the wish to preserve an important musical era, build something positive and share it with listeners worldwide.

Made with care in Ukraine. Shared with listeners everywhere.
