Why we feature this artist
Tonight puts Enrique Iglesias’ melodic lead inside a forceful electronic pop setting, with Ludacris providing the rap appearance and DJ Frank E shaping the production. The three names do different work in the recording. Recognising that division makes the single more interesting than a simple sequence of guest voices.
The explicit single appeared in November 2010. Universal’s original credits identify DJ Frank E as producer and recording engineer, Jacob Luttrell as co-producer and keyboard player, and Ludacris as rap vocalist. Carlos Paucar also has a recording-production role, with Manny Marroquin mixing the finished track.
The arrangement is direct about its intended scale. Iglesias supplies a concise melodic line, and the electronic pulse gives each return a strong sense of forward movement. Ludacris changes the vocal texture and rhythmic density, bringing a more emphatic personality into the established setting.
DJ Frank E’s featured billing is attached to the sound of the record rather than another equivalent sung part. His production role helps establish the single’s character, while the separate guest rap gives it a more immediately audible change of speaker.
The recording remained part of Iglesias’ later official Greatest Hits catalogue with those roles intact. Tonight is a useful example of how a pop single can give prominent billing to both a guest performer and a producer. The main melody keeps the structure easy to follow, but the record’s energy is shared among different kinds of creative contribution. Each name points to a particular part of the finished result.
