Why we feature this artist
Before a dated radio recording, there was a label full of records worth playing. Red Jerry's history is closely tied to Hooj Choons, the imprint he launched with Phil Howells in 1991.
Hooj's own history identifies its co-founder as Jerry Dickens. Its catalogue travelled through house, trance, progressive and deeper club music, putting records by the likes of Energy 52, Nalin & Kane, Medway and Circulation under the same roof. That breadth is useful context for Red Jerry's DJ name: a label catalogue can reveal a selector's interests across many records, rather than reducing the story to one hit. The date in this page's archive credit belongs to the retained radio listing; a surviving original programme sheet would be needed to certify that particular broadcast.
The 2002 RJ Project release What Color Is Love credits Terry Callier as composer and Red Jerry on several versions, including an extended original mix and a dub. Hooj later presented Dickens as Jag Limbo for the 2024 Torschlusspanik EP, a three-track release moving into electronica and breaks. The label describes it as his return to a solo Hooj release after the RJ Project period. It is a small but telling continuation: the person who helped build the catalogue also kept making records outside a single fixed genre.

Three tracks written and produced by Jerry Dickens, presented by Hooj as a new solo release from its co-founder.
