About Avicii

Why we feature this artist

Avicii turned electronic dance music into something deeply human. His records were built for huge crowds, yet their melodies often felt intimate — like memories already forming while the song was still playing.

Artist story

From bedroom producer to global voice

Avicii emerged at the moment when European house music became a worldwide pop language.

Born Tim Bergling in Stockholm, Avicii began producing music as a teenager. His early work already showed the qualities that would define his career: strong chord progressions, emotional hooks and an instinct for melodies capable of connecting with enormous audiences.

His international breakthrough came through releases such as Seek Bromance and Levels . The latter became one of the defining electronic records of the early 2010s and helped move festival-oriented dance music into mainstream pop culture.

His debut album True widened the vocabulary of commercial electronic music. By combining dance production with acoustic guitars, soul vocals, country and bluegrass influences, Avicii challenged expectations about what a festival anthem could sound like. Wake Me Up , Hey Brother and Addicted to You carried that experiment far beyond traditional dance audiences.

After retiring from touring in 2016, he continued writing and producing. The 2017 EP AVĪCI (01) became his final release during his lifetime. The posthumous album TIM , completed with collaborators from material he had been developing, followed in 2019.

Legacy

Melody first. Genre second.

Avicii’s most lasting contribution was proving that dance production could carry the emotional clarity of classic songwriting. His records joined acoustic instrumentation, pop structure and festival-scale sound without treating those elements as contradictions.

That approach became a template for a generation of producers and songwriters. His music remains instantly recognisable because the production serves the melody rather than replacing it.
