The story of 4 Strings
Why we feature this artist
A vocal at the centre of the night
4 Strings found a particularly clear way of joining trance atmosphere to a song. The melody opens gradually, the vocal stays close enough to feel personal and the beat makes the same feeling usable in a much larger room. “Take Me Away (Into the Night)” remains the obvious door into that world.
The first records
Carlo Resoort and Jan de Vos formed the Dutch project around the turn of the millennium. Early releases led to “Take Me Away (Into the Night)”, whose layered electronic setting made the central vocal line feel suspended above the rhythm. The full mixes give that relationship more room than the short edit can.
Believe in 2003 gathered the developing sound, including “Diving” and “Let It Rain”. The vocal writing is direct, but the arrangement adds distance and scale around it. The result can feel intimate at the centre and expansive at the edges.
Keeping the melodic thread
Turn It Around in 2004 and Mainline in 2006 continued the catalogue through new records and collaborators. The project remained connected to vocal trance without depending on a single singer or one unchanging studio texture.
The early albums and original club mixes are the most useful introduction. They show the craft behind an apparently straightforward emotional effect: the voice establishes the feeling, the repeated harmony gives it space and the rhythmic return changes how strongly the same line lands. The best 4 Strings records let all three parts remain clear.
