Why we feature this artist
A bright pop reply to a conversational rap
“Like U Like” pairs Aggro Santos’s rhythmic delivery with Kimberley Walsh’s clear sung hook. The contrast is the whole point of the record: one voice keeps the phrases moving, the other gives them a more open melodic destination. The production is bright enough to make the exchange feel easy.
A 2011 guest appearance
The single reached its main release in early 2011 through Future Records. Walsh was already familiar as a member of Girls Aloud, while Santos had made his first wider impression through the dance-pop crossover “Candy”. The recording brought those two pop settings into a focused new duet.
The arrangement gives the rap and sung parts clear separate roles. Walsh’s delivery has the directness of an experienced group-pop singer, making the chorus feel settled after the quicker movement of the verses. Santos’s phrasing supplies the change in texture that keeps the structure from becoming too uniform.
The proportions of a short single
The original recording is deliberately compact, with the production built around a quick return to the central melody. There is little room for an instrumental detour, so the small differences between the voices have to supply the variation.
That makes the track a useful snapshot of British pop at the start of the 2010s. A rapper and a girl-group singer can share a record without either one abandoning the role that makes them recognisable. The song gains its character from the arrangement of those roles, rather than from presenting the collaboration as an entirely new group.
