The story of Alex Gaudino Feat. Shena
Why we feature this artist
A voice with room to push back
“Watch Out” puts Shena’s commanding vocal at the centre of Alex Gaudino’s brightly coloured house production. The track has the immediately recognisable shape of a late-2000s crossover single: a rhythmic instrumental hook, a direct chorus and enough space between them for the singer to establish a personality. Shena supplies a little friction inside that polished surface.
Following the breakthrough
Universal’s original announcement dates the Italian release to late 2007, after “Destination Calabria” had carried Gaudino’s name across international dance floors. The wider campaign continued into 2008. That sequence places “Watch Out” within an active period of club-to-radio crossover rather than treating it as an isolated novelty.
The original release already allowed for several settings. Radio and extended versions sat beside remixes by Nari & Milani, Jason Rooney and Robbie Rivera. Those different arrangements made the vocal and the instrumental motif available to DJs with different ideas about pace and weight.
Shena changes the temperature
The vocal matters because it has a firm attack. Shena does not simply float over the backing: the clipped emphasis and the more sustained phrases give the production something to answer. The instrumental can remain economical because the performance creates its own changes in pressure.
“Watch Out” is especially revealing beside “Destination Calabria”. Gaudino again makes a short musical figure do a large amount of structural work, but the featured voice changes the record’s character. Here the singer gives the track a more assertive centre, making the repeated hook feel like a response to a person rather than an attraction on its own.
