Why we feature this artist

A familiar voice in a different light

AnnaGrace gave Annemie Coenen’s voice a more rhythm-led setting than the trance records that first made her familiar. The melodies are still open and immediate, but the production often leaves more room around the vocal, letting a short phrase become part of the groove.

A new project with Peter Luts

Coenen and producer Peter Luts developed AnnaGrace after their earlier work in the Belgian dance scene. “You Make Me Feel” arrived in 2008, introducing a sound closer to electro-house and contemporary dance-pop than a straightforward continuation of the earlier Ian Van Dahl identity.

“Let the Feelings Go” and “Love Keeps Calling” followed, establishing a run of songs whose emotional language was deliberately clear. The vocal has enough warmth to make the refrain feel personal, while Luts’s production keeps the rhythm moving underneath rather than allowing every line to become a large trance breakdown.

The album behind the singles

Ready to Dare in 2010 gathered those early records into a full album. It is a useful place to hear the project’s balance: Coenen can carry a conventional song, but the arrangements also use her tone as a repeating musical texture.

The strongest tracks work through small changes in emphasis. A clipped response, a held note or a brief space before the beat returns can make a familiar chorus land differently. AnnaGrace belongs to a particular late-2000s dance moment, but the best records remain approachable because the song has not disappeared inside the production.
