The small piece of pop history inside Say Say Say
Hi_Tack's Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U) gives a familiar pop phrase a much more concentrated dance-floor purpose. The record's 2005–2006 release period put a new rhythmic frame around material credited to Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney.
The Hi_Tack recording
The project is the work of Dutch producers Koen Groeneveld and Addy van der Zwan, also associated with Klubbheads. The official Spinnin' recording preserves the source writers, while the British chart history records a number-four peak in early 2006.
A phrase becomes the mechanism
The production uses a short piece of recognition as something that can drive an extended arrangement. Bass and drums establish the new physical setting, while the vocal fragment gives the listener a familiar reference inside it. The phrase can disappear, return and acquire more force because the rhythm has prepared the space around it. This is a compact example of how a house record can make a new musical argument through selection: choosing which moment to repeat changes the emphasis of the source as much as changing the beat does.
