Why we feature this artist

The instrumental hook does not wait for permission

Talk Dirty is recognisable through the instrumental phrase almost before Jason Derulo has established the scene. The 2013 single with 2 Chainz uses that brassy, winding hook as an equal partner to the voices. Its production is spare enough for each entrance to make an impression, turning a short pop record into a succession of sharply drawn gestures.

A melody that acts like percussion

The main instrumental figure bends around the beat with a swagger of its own. Ricky Reed's production leaves it enough space to function as a response to the vocal, rather than burying it inside a large backing arrangement. The gaps are part of the track's confidence: a few conspicuous sounds are allowed to carry the whole idea.

Derulo shifts between a melodic lead and shorter, more rhythmically pointed phrases. The voice stays clear without trying to compete with the instrumental every time it returns. That alternation gives the record its shape, with the hook behaving almost like another character in the exchange.

The guest changes the angle

2 Chainz's verse brings a lower, more conversational weight to the performance. His phrasing makes the rhythm feel different without requiring a new musical setting. The guest spot is useful precisely because it does not sound like another pass through Derulo's melody.

The song later gives its name to Derulo's 2014 album release, but the original single already contains a very complete sound. It is bold without being especially dense. A distinctive instrumental refrain, an agile lead and a contrasting guest are enough to keep the arrangement moving from one clear idea to the next.
