Why we feature this artist
A groove with a life of its own
Jaydee’s “Plastic Dreams” is proof that a track can be instantly recognisable without a conventional chorus. The organ figure keeps circling, slightly off balance and impossible to hurry, while the drums make every return feel physical. It is a record whose personality lives in the relationship between a few sounds.
The long original
Dutch producer Robin Albers released “Plastic Dreams” as Jaydee in the early 1990s through R&S Records. The original long version gives its main idea more than ten minutes, letting the listener settle into the strange rhythmic conversation between the organ and the beat.
The tune does not simply sit above the percussion. Its accents seem to lean across the rhythm, creating movement even when the arrangement is doing very little. That is why a short extract can introduce the sound but cannot quite explain the record’s full effect.
A record that welcomes new readings
The many remixes, including versions associated with David Morales, Murk and Peshay, make an interesting second route into the music. Each changes the pressure around the central idea, revealing how much character is already contained in the original pattern.
The first listen should still be the complete original. Jaydee’s best-known recording asks for attention through duration rather than constant novelty. A few elements remain in motion long enough to become a small world, with the next cycle feeling necessary even after the main melody has become completely familiar.
