Le Youth Feat. Dominique Young Unique

Sony's original release material identifies TLC's No Scrubs as a source for the melody. Le Youth gives that recognition a new rhythmic frame, using bright instrumental colours and a buoyant beat to make the track feel open and sociable. The borrowed familiarity is immediately useful, but the arrangement does more than simply replay a remembered chorus.

The vocal fragments and instrumental figures sit close to the beat, giving the record a tidy, almost weightless movement. Its production belongs to the moment when earlier R&B sounds were being made newly useful inside concise pop-house singles. The pleasure is partly in hearing an old melodic memory take on a different pace.

Dominique Young Unique's guest role is the rap, and its firmer attack provides the clearest change of character. Her delivery brings personality and a different rhythmic emphasis into the polished surface. The contrast works because the backing remains recognisable as she enters, allowing the voice itself to mark the turn.

The Sign Of The Times and Epic release reached the UK top twenty in February 2014. The accompanying official video and remix package preserve the same featured credit. Dance With Me works on a modest, well-judged scale: a familiar melodic cue, a clean dance rhythm and a guest who knows how to make a short appearance count.
