The guitar and the voice survive the change of scene

Prayer in C had a life before its most familiar dance version. Lilly Wood & The Prick released the song on Invincible Friends in 2010; Robin Schulz's 2014 remix brought the recording into a much wider pop setting. Its success rests on how clearly the original character remains audible inside the new rhythm.

The song was already there

The original songwriting credit belongs to Benjamin Cotto and Nili Hadida. Hadida's vocal has an unusually direct, grainy presence, while the recurring guitar figure gives the song a distinctive melodic outline. Neither element needs much decoration to make its impression.

The words carry more unease than the remix's relaxed surface might initially suggest. That difference gives the recording some of its staying power: the sound invites an easy response, but the vocal does not reduce itself to a simple expression of happiness. There is something unresolved underneath the familiar tune.

Schulz makes the frame more regular

The remix credits identify Schulz with production, keyboards and programming, alongside the original performers and Pierre Guimard's production contribution. He gives the guitar and voice a steadier electronic framework, allowing their character to travel through a new arrangement rather than replacing them with a different song.

The official remix appeared in 2014 and reached number one in the UK. Its short radio edit makes the transition feel almost effortless: the guitar identifies the record, the beat establishes its new setting and Hadida's voice supplies the texture that keeps it from becoming anonymous. The best part of the transformation is how much of the earlier recording it allows the listener to keep hearing.
