The story of Mason Vs. Princess Superstar
Why we feature this artist
An instrumental hook meets a voice with its own agenda
Perfect (Exceeder) makes its combination feel remarkably natural. The 2007 recording joins Mason's instrumental Exceeder to material from Princess Superstar's earlier Perfect, letting a large electronic riff and a sharply characterised vocal share the foreground. Each part is conspicuous enough to remain memorable on its own.
Two earlier ideas become one record
Armada's own release history identifies the two sources: Mason's dance production and Princess Superstar's 2005 single. Their meeting gives the instrumental a human point of view while giving the vocal a much larger rhythmic setting. The join is effective because the delivery and the riff already possess strong, uncluttered shapes.
Princess Superstar's performance has an amused, self-aware authority. She sounds in control of the attention the record is asking for, and that attitude gives the repeated instrumental figure a personality. The production can be heavy without making the performance feel humourless.
A later audience finds the same combination
The track returned to wider attention after appearing in Saltburn in 2023. Armada documented the renewed response and followed it with further versions, including a David Guetta treatment in 2024. Those releases extend the record's history without changing which earlier recordings supplied its central idea.
The original remains persuasive because it never hides the difference between its two ingredients. The riff offers a blunt physical hook; the voice introduces wit, timing and a point of view. Perfect (Exceeder) lets both be larger than life, then gives them a beat on which they can agree.
