The story of Meck Feat. Leo Sayer
Why we feature this artist
A seventies vocal finds a new surge of energy
Thunder in My Heart Again gives Leo Sayer's earlier song a second, very different moment in the foreground. Meck's 2006 release places the recognisable vocal inside a firmer dance arrangement, turning its existing urgency into a new kind of physical lift. The title acknowledges the return, and the performance makes it feel justified.
The voice carries its own history
Sayer's own discography dates Thunder in My Heart to 1977. The vocal has enough attack and melodic clarity to remain distinctive when the surrounding arrangement changes. Its emotional emphasis is already strong, giving Meck something substantial to reorganise rather than an anonymous phrase to decorate.
The new production makes repetition more central. A familiar vocal passage can return over a steadier rhythmic frame, with instrumental changes supplying the build and release. The singer's intensity does not need to be newly manufactured; the dance setting gives that intensity another way to reach the listener.
The return becomes a record of its own
The 2006 single reached number one in the UK and remained there for two weeks. Its release credit puts Meck and Sayer together, while Sayer's official video archive also preserves the later recording as part of his own history. The earlier song and the dance version remain separately identifiable.
That separation is useful when listening. The older recording establishes the performance's original character; Thunder in My Heart Again shows how a producer can hear another possible pace inside it. The vocal still sounds like Sayer, but the repeated returns make the excitement feel newly shared with the room around him.
