Why we feature this artist
Electronic pop with a hard, bright edge
Pakito’s breakthrough records put a familiar melodic idea through a very particular electronic filter. The synth sound is thick, bright and clipped into the beat, giving the music a character before a vocal needs to appear. The result is deliberately immediate, but the arrangement keeps the hook moving.
The Living on Video moment
French producer Julien Ranouil released as Pakito, reaching a broad international audience in 2006 with “Living on Video”. His version of the Trans-X song rebuilt its central melody for a harder mid-2000s dance floor, making the sound of the synth as important as the tune itself.
The Video album followed in the same period, with “Moving on Stereo” and “Are U Ready?” extending the production identity. The music relies on clear contrasts: a repeated figure, a break in the drums and the return of a heavier rhythmic frame.
The personality of the sound
The strongest tracks show how effectively a producer can give a small group of sounds a recognisable accent. The hook remains easy to follow, while the bass and the attack of each note make the arrangement feel physical.
The original Video-era singles are a useful starting point, particularly in their full club versions. They make the construction easier to hear than a short extract does. Pakito’s central idea is simple enough to catch immediately, but the timing of each withdrawal and return is what gives it a second life on the dance floor.
