The story of Route 94 Feat. Jess Glynne
Why we feature this artist
The piano loop and the voice that made My Love travel
My Love gives Jess Glynne’s voice a house setting with an unusually clear centre of gravity. Route 94’s piano figure, bass and percussion establish the shape quickly, while the singing adds warmth and an emotional pull that the instrumental loop cannot supply alone. The record feels direct because every principal element has a distinct job.
The original Rinse release
Rinse issued the collaboration in 2014, documenting the original track as a little over four minutes long. Glynne is explicitly named as the featured singer, preserving the relationship between the production identity and the performance. Her vocal can move freely across the repeated instrumental pattern without making the groove lose focus.
The piano is more than an introductory hook. Its recurrence helps organise the entire arrangement, giving the voice a familiar surface to lean against. The bass supplies a contrasting weight beneath that bright sound, and the percussion keeps the record moving without needing a constant sequence of new instrumental ideas.
The later remixes
Ten years later, Rinse returned to the song during its thirtieth-anniversary celebrations. New versions by Vigro Deep and James Hiraeth appeared in 2024, with the label describing two substantially different rhythmic approaches. One gives the material a warmer, more spacious treatment, while the other pushes it toward a faster energy.
The distance between those versions underlines the original recording’s clarity. The vocal and piano association is strong enough to remain legible when the surrounding rhythm changes. My Love began as a particular producer-and-singer encounter, but its later history shows how that encounter can become material for other musicians without losing the identity that made it memorable.
