Why we feature this artist

SASH!: a melody that knows how to fill the room

SASH! records make their central musical idea easy to recognise. A melodic figure, a distinct vocal presence and a rhythm with very clear forward movement give the songs an immediate identity. The late-1990s catalogue turns that practical formula into a surprisingly varied set of pop and club recordings.

It’s My Life

The 1997 album It’s My Life brings together Encore Une Fois, Ecuador and Stay. Its original credits identify the writing partnership of Ralf Kappmeier, Thomas Alisson and Sascha Lappessen, with production by SASH! and Tokapi.

The featured voices help distinguish the songs. Sabine Ohmes appears on Encore Une Fois, Rodriguez on Ecuador and La Trec on Stay. Different languages and vocal textures give the same broad electronic approach a different personality from track to track.

La Primavera

La Primavera arrived in 1998, opening the next album, Life Goes On. Its melodic brightness and the singing give the record a lighter colour, while the rhythm keeps the same direct dance-floor purpose.

The release includes an original version, a UK radio edit and remixes by producers including Blank and Jones. Those arrangements make a useful comparison: the central song remains recognisable even as the pacing, length and electronic surroundings change.

A catalogue of distinct voices

Life Goes On also includes Mysterious Times with Tina Cousins, Move Mania with Shannon and Colour the World with Dr. Alban. The succession of singers gives the album a broader vocal range than a single hit might suggest.

La Primavera is a good place to begin, then move backwards to Ecuador and forwards to Mysterious Times. The records share a clear production instinct, but their melodies and performers give each one a reason to be heard on its own.
