Why we feature this artist
Sharam: a solo voice beyond Deep Dish
P.A.T.T. (Party All the Time) gave Sharam a particularly direct solo introduction. The record reached number eight in the UK in January 2007, taking a familiar pop idea into a large dance arrangement. It is one part of a career that also includes Deep Dish, the Yoshitoshi label and a much wider range of club productions.
The solo catalogue
Sharam’s work with Dubfire as Deep Dish supplies an important earlier chapter, but the solo records are not limited to repeating that partnership’s sound. P.A.T.T. favours immediate recognition; other productions move towards different balances of rhythm, atmosphere and vocal material.
Yoshitoshi gives that musical range a label setting. The imprint and Sharam’s DJ work connect studio releases with a continuing programme of records selected for clubs and radio mixes.
Party All the Time returns
The original Data single entered the UK chart at the end of 2006 and reached its peak the following month. That chronology places the first large UK response before later biographies’ occasional shorthand dates.
Adam Beyer, Layton Giordani and Green Velvet revisited P.A.T.T. in 2024. The new treatment gives a later production context to a musical idea already associated with Sharam’s solo career. His collaboration Anthem with Diplo supplies another example of work taking the sound in a different direction.
The useful comparison is between those records rather than between marketing labels. P.A.T.T. makes recognition its starting point; the wider catalogue shows how a producer can keep the dance floor in view while changing the kind of material used to reach it.
