The story of Three Drives On A Vinyl
Why we feature this artist
Greece 2000: an instrumental melody with a long horizon
Greece 2000 gives Three Drives on a Vinyl a record whose central melody can carry an entire arrangement without a singer. The original 1997 production moves with a warm, steady pulse, gradually allowing its repeating figure to become the main event. Its sense of scale comes from patience: the melody is allowed to settle before the track asks it to do more.
Enrico and Ton T.B.
The Dutch partnership was originally identified through the recording names Enrico and Ton T.B. Contemporary Hooj Choons release coverage lists both producers and describes how the record had already circulated on import before the label signed it in January 1998. The international release therefore developed in stages rather than arriving everywhere at once.
The later Three Drives billing shortened the longer original name, but the musical identity of Greece 2000 remained easy to recognise. Its instrumental line has the clarity of a pop hook, while the surrounding rhythm leaves enough space for a DJ mix to develop around it.
A theme that can survive a different arrangement
Hooj’s early campaign commissioned several additional interpretations, including versions from Peace Division and Man with No Name. Those treatments show how much of the record’s identity resides in the melodic idea itself: a different rhythmic setting can change its atmosphere while leaving the point of recognition intact.
Armada’s later catalogue returns to the original extended mix alongside newer reworkings. The appeal of that first arrangement remains its proportion. The groove does not rush the melody, the melody does not need to explain itself with words, and the gradual changes make the return of a familiar phrase feel like a destination. The radio edit offers a shorter path through the same landscape.
