Why we feature this artist
The strange space before Loneliness comes back in
Tomcraft's Loneliness is built around the pleasure of waiting for a particularly recognisable sound to return. The vocal fragment and the thick electronic figure seem to pull in different emotional directions, giving a direct club record a distinctly odd atmosphere. The Munich producer's wider catalogue places that breakthrough inside years of work between techno, trance and electro-oriented house.
The early albums and the hit
Thomas Brückner recorded as Tomcraft after developing a DJ career in Germany. All I Got appeared in 2001, before Loneliness found its much larger international audience. The single reached number one in Britain in 2003, with the MUC album providing a wider setting for that period of his production work.
Loneliness does not need a long lyric to establish its identity. A short vocal idea and a strongly shaped instrumental response do most of the work, while the arrangement controls how much of each the listener receives at once. The break can feel almost suspended before the beat and principal figure return, making the track's physical effect depend on space as well as force.
The recordings after MUC
HyperSexyConscious followed in 2006, with For the Queen in 2007. The latter included a contribution from Jimmy Pop on Broadsword Calling Danny Boy, another example of Tomcraft's interest in a vocal presence that could change the character of an electronic track. The album settings gave individual sounds and rhythmic approaches more room than one radio edit could provide.
Brückner continued releasing singles and remixes before his death in 2024. The long afterlife of Loneliness can make that one record seem like a complete artistic identity, but the surrounding work gives it a more useful context. It is a particularly effective version of an enduring production problem: make a sound memorable enough to survive repetition, then arrange its arrivals so that familiarity increases rather than removes the tension.
