When It’s My Turn: several voices inside one late-nineties single

When It’s My Turn places the VIP Allstars name beside Ray, Strezz and Orpheo on a 1999 EMI single. The recording works through changes of vocal texture, moving between a more melodic refrain and rhythmically direct passages. Its compact pop arrangement gives those handovers a clear route back to the title.

The original featured billing

The Dutch Top 40’s original chart record identifies the complete shared credit and dates the EMI campaign to 1999. The single reached number 35 in that chart. The released name is useful here because it keeps the individual contributions visible without turning a featured recording into an undocumented permanent group.

The contrast between a sustained hook and quicker vocal phrases gives the arrangement its shape. The refrain can establish something familiar, then the following passage changes the density of the language. The backing has to remain steady enough for those switches to register without making them sound like unrelated tracks.

The maxi-single leaves room for the arrangement

The original EMI package includes a radio edit, an extended version, a Q.S. remix, a Spanish remix and an instrumental. Those formats present the song as both a concise vocal single and material that can be reorganised for a longer listening or club setting. Removing the vocal also makes the rhythmic framework easier to follow on its own.
