Why we feature this artist
House music warmed by a human voice
Yves Larock’s best-known records make the house beat feel light on its feet. Reggae, dancehall and older rhythmic influences enter the production without turning the song into a collection of references. The vocal gives the track a clear emotional direction, while the rhythm keeps the invitation open.
From Zookey to Rise Up
The Swiss producer became widely associated with the Africanism collective through “Zookey (Lift Your Leg Up)” in 2005. The record brought a particularly playful rhythmic character to a broader house setting, establishing a sound that was less interested in cold electronic force than in movement and colour.
“Rise Up” in 2007, featuring Jaba, gave that approach its largest international moment. The voice is warm and unhurried, while the melody lifts gradually above a clear, steady beat. The song feels open because the arrangement leaves enough room for the singer’s phrasing.
The value of a familiar collaborator
Further work with Jaba, including “By Your Side” and “Say Yeah”, extended the same musical conversation. The singer’s presence became an important part of how the productions carried their personality, rather than a vocal layer added to an otherwise finished club track.
The early singles are an effective introduction because the central balance is already complete. Larock’s music can be immediately accessible without smoothing away its rhythmic details. A small percussion figure or an instrumental colour gives the groove something individual, while the chorus makes the whole record feel shared.
